Well Done Everyone!!!!!

Great effort

Thanks to the staff from Brimbank Council who organised the making of this park and the workers who built it.

and a very big thank you to the students, staff and teachers who contributed their ideas, artwork, time and enthusiasm to make such wonderful art for the park.

Glengala Pocket Park Artwork

Young people from the local community - from Sunshine Heights Primary School, Sunshine College and Marian College - have decorated clay tiles for this park, which appear on pavers and a sculpted lizard.

Each of the round tiles has its own story - exploring ideas about the importance of being part of a community of people, the place in which we live and the role that parks play in our lives.

The tiles were decorated in workshops with local artist Debbie Qadri, who included many of them on a lizard sculpture for the park.

Mosaic work on the pavers was created by parents and teachers of Sunshine Heights Primary school in workshops, in workshops with the artist.

Special thanks to: Aasta Dearnley, Brigid Wheelan, Mirjana Vuc-Nikic, Francine Sculli, for assisting to organise workshops; and parents and staff who assisted in Mosaicking the pavers - Huong, Jacci, Sukie, Jessica, Jasmine, Aasta, Winpreet and Irene.

Paver Workshops

Workshops to glue the tiles onto pavers were held at Sunshine Heights Primary School.

There was a series of workshops with Parents and another with Staff of the school.

Here are some photos.

broken tiles are separated into colours ready to use.

All of the materials needed are travelling to the workshops

Four teachers work together on one paver and it is awesome!!!!

Above: You can see some of the tiles which have been brought to the workshops so that the parents can choose which ones to put on each paver.

Thank you very much to the parents and staff -
Huong, Jacci, Sukie, Jessica, Jasmine, Aasta, Winpreet and Irene -
who were willing to learn a new skill and contribute to this project.

The tiles are fired!

Here is a photo of the kiln that the tiles were fired in. Each tile has to have two firings - a bisque, which transforms the clay into a hard tile (stone) and then a second one where I paint a glaze (like putting powdered glass onto the surface of the tile) and then it comes out shiny!

Above: The tiles are sitting in the kiln on shelves

Above and below: Here are the tiles as they have come out of the kiln on each shelf
(not all tiles are in these photos)
